Mooning Over Montclair

Montclair, New Jersey, is one of those unusual areas that hasn't lost a lot in the housing crisis—it's a beautiful town, the schools are good and the Manhattan commute is easy. And this large 6 bed/4 full/2 half baths home on a quiet street within walking distance of everything, is actually sanely priced at $899K. Built in 1882, it has vintage details like carved moldings, leaded glass and four fireplaces, but it's all nicely updated in the kitchen and baths. The finished basement has the unusual bonus of a recording studio (for the budding Idol contestant?), and there's a lovely carriage house as well. See? It is rather a bargain after all. For more info/pics, go here

Room to Grow

Maybe we cover the Charlotte, North Carolina, area a tad often, but it's understandable—it's a great place to live. Take this roomy ranch in nearby Gastonia, for example: built in groovy 1966, it's got 5 beds/3 baths with a finished basement that includes a bar and entertainment room. Outside, the over half-acre property, priced at $289.9K,has mature landscaping, stone walls and steps, and a winsome little bridge over a stream. You and your future offspring will love it. Faerie Queen

The bewitching breakout tv hit, Once Upon a Time, should consider filming in this enchanting storybook-style Santa Ana, California, house, on the market for $699K. Built in 1927 with 5 beds/2.5 baths, its turret entry, arched windows and quaint red front door are fit for a modern-day Princess. Inside are details like a stone and tile fireplace, original lighting fixtures, built-ins, niches, stained glass and a unique domed-ceiling'd breakfast room. This is, like, so Grimm—and we mean that in a good way! For more info/pics, go here

Delightful & De-Lovely

If Nick and Nora Charles were around today, we'd imagine them living in a house like this, even tho the Nashville location might be a little strange, especially for Asta, but with a home this fabulous, he'd adapt. Built in 1939 and listed for $3.3 million, the 7600 square foot house, a cross between Art Moderne and International styles, has simple but elegant rooms with herringbone wood floors, curved walls and staircases and marble fireplaces. Oh: it sits on 3.4 manicured acres, and has a pool and a stable. Now all you need is a pitcher of martinis, a silk smoking jacket and a smarty-pants wire fox terrier and your life is complete. For more info/pics, go here

Scottish Bling

When you're a wee tired of neighbors and sirens and city living and long for a place in the country, why not the Highlands of Scotland? This bonny brilliant house, set on a hill overlooking Diabaig Bay, Loch Torridon and the hills of Applecross (on the far-flung northwest coast), has views to die for, along with new construction and $765K price tag. The area is famed for its mountain and coastal walks and wildlife like seals and sea otters, but this is Scotland, so a golf course is never far. In addition to the 3 bed/3 bath main house, you'll get Steading Cottage, so there's plenty of room if you do allow some visitors. Can we one of them? For more info/pics, go here

Tempted by a Tudor

Everyone's heard not-so-great things about living in and around Detroit, Michigan, but there are parts of the city that are fine and even thriving, like hipster haven Ferndale, where you'll find this darling Tudor for $225K. With 3 beds/2.5 baths, the 1600 square feet of living space is perfect for a young family, who can also use the fenced-in yard and patio during warmer months. The kitchen's been updated, the basement's finished, and the details, like coved ceilings and fireplace, are sweet. For more info/pics, go here

Rapture in the Berkshires

You know those movies that aren't very good, but the house where most of it takes place is so divine that you don't really notice (ex: It's Complicated)? Well, someone should tell Hollywood to come film one of those in this exquisite $1.085 million Stockbridge, Massachusetts colonial. Originally built in 1796, the 3 bed/3 bath was revamped in 2010 and, OMG, somebody sure knew what they were doing. There's no way to describe or list all of the gorgeousness, so scroll thru the photos for glimpses of the 6 fireplaces, wide-planked floors, marble baths, wood beamed ceilings, etc. If we lived here, we'd never leave the house. Never. For more info/pics, go here

Shop House

An architect took this former 40s' era wood/furniture shop in San Antonio, Texas, and turned it into an amazing modern loft space that looks like it could be dropped right into Tribeca.  Priced at $375K, the 2800 square foot 2 bed/2 bath home has a bright, airy feel with cement floors, brick and wood walls and interior and exterior casement windows. Many of the elements were salvaged from other buildings, which, combined with the Spanish style of the exterior, makes for one eclectic but beautiful home. Which could be yours. My Thai!

VACATION RENTAL: You've been to the Bahamas, you've done Hawaii, and St. Bart's has Real Housewives of NYC cast members splashing beachside—so where's your next sunny getaway? We're strongly suggesting exotic Phuket, Thailand, where you can rent luxurious 3 bed/3.5 bath Lanterns Villa for $2100-4400 a week. Set in a quiet, residential neighborhood, you can loll around your own pool and gardens to your heart's content, or take a 10 minute stroll to Surin Beach to catch some waves, followed by lunch and upscale shopping. Sun, water and Prada? Positively dreamy. For more info/pics, go here

Thank God it's Victorian Friday!

Just in time for Christmas and providing the perfect ending to theme week, today's trio are all proper ladies of the Victorian era, starting with this opulent $2.1 million temptress in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A historic landmark, the King Estate (Alexander King was an Irish immigrant glass manufacturer), built in 1880, has over 8300 square feet of living space with 8 beds/4.5 baths and sits on 2 acres. A local couple has spent nearly the last two decades painstakingly restoring it down to the last bit of stained glass, so do yourself a favor and scroll the photos to see the sumptuous results. You might want to position yourself on a fainting couch. Merry Christmas! For more info/pics, go here

Victorian's Secret (Garden, that is!)

This one's a bliss bomb: a perfect 2000 square foot, 2 bed/1 bath cottage in Portland, Oregon, beautifully maintained and updated and literally surrounded by the most—and we're invoking Tom Cruise's most overused adjective here, but it's apt—magical gardens imaginable. Priced at $425K, interior shutters frame the many windows, some of which have leaded glass, the kitchen is new, and there's a cozy bricked sun room for reading or zoning out. Seriously, who wouldn't be happy to live here? For more info/pics, go here

Goth & Circumstance

With its stone entrance and long, narrow windows, this $475K Concord, New Hampshire manse would look very Dark Shadows if it was painted a dark color, but its pale gray lends it a happier feel. Built in 1905 an known locally as "the Castle," it's a rambling 4700+ square feet with 6 beds/2 baths/2 half baths and refurbished details like raised panelling and wainscotting. The 27 foot long screened-in porch with views of the countryside would make even Barnabas Collins feel warm and fuzzy. For more info/pics, go here

Grab a Mojito: It's Spanish Thursday!

We've gone loco for themes this week and today is no exception as it's all under the Spanish umbrella—Revival, Colonial, whatever you call it, it's got character and old world charm to spare. Take this 1928 Riverdale, New York home, for example: asking $1.29 million, it has 4 beds/3 baths in over 3000 square feet, with original details like dramatic vaulted ceilings, a magnificent fireplace, leaded glass windows and even the original lighting fixtures. Elegant yet homey, right? That's Spanish style for you! For more info/pics, go here

Valley Pearl

So you want to live fabulously in glamorous Los Angeles, but you don't want to pay millions for the house that would require? Welcome to Valley Village, an upscale nabe in the San Fernando Valley (north of Studio City/south of North Hollywood), where $799K gets you this exquisite 3 bed/3.5 bath 1932 Spanish Colonial. The house is nicely updated with things like a new kitchen with travertine counters, but it's the original details that stand out—like the scrolled doorways and outdoor bricked courtyard and, especially this vintage bath, which makes us positively giddy. We're calling the movers now! For more info/pics, go here

Why be a turista in sunny Miami, Florida, when you could settle into your own digs and enjoy the balmy breezes year-round? Priced at $1.09 million, this renovated 6 bed/6 bath home in the gated nabe of Morningside has the kind of patina'd details that can only come from its 1925 origins: beamed ceilings, stucco walls, intricate ironwork, dark wood floors. And because every one of your 1000 Facebook friends will whine for an invite, there's even a separate guest house. (Of course, you could also charge them rent, right?) For more info/pics, go here

Woo-Woo: It's Contemporary Wednesday!

We've decided to theme every day this week, thus today is dedicated to contemporary/modern style and what better way to kick it off than with this wildly unique $9.9 million gem in Sonoma, California. Sitting on top of 17 acres, the home's many terraces and patios showcase amazing views of the valley, the vineyards and even the Bay. The main house has 3 beds/4.5 baths, and there's a separate guest house, a 3000 square foot auto room/fitness center, a pool/spa, and even a wine cave. Which makes sense because if you lived here, you'd be toasting to your luck every day! For more info/pics, go here

Hudson High

A little over an hour north of Manhattan and across the Hudson River from West Point, you'll find Cold Spring, one of the prettiest towns in the Northeast. Though known for its historic 19th century homes, just a few minutes outside of the downtown area we found this fabulous 1976 contemporary, which sits on over one acre of a woodsy plot. Priced at $695K, there are 4 beds/2.5 baths, custom cabinets, fireplaces, and a solarium that cantilevers over a stream. Why do we have a sudden urge to mull wine and wear a big fuzzy sweater? Totally Tudor Tuesday!

At a friend's suggestion, all of today's houses are of the Tudor style, starting with this absolutely exquisite $9.25 million vision in Bronxville, New York. Designed by architect Lewis Bowman in 1922, it's considered one of the finest examples of Tudor revival style in the country and has 7000 square feet with 5 beds/3 baths/3 half baths and sits on over an acre of manicured grounds. Words cannot describe, so scroll through the photos to see the glorious rooms for yourself—limestone fireplaces, cross-beamed ceilings, huge leaded windows, they're all here! And maybe, if you were born under a very lucky star, you could be, too. For more info/pics, go here

Ye Olde Memphis

This modest but well-maintained Tudor in Memphis, Tennessee, is today's bargain with an asking price of—you might want to sit down for this—$149.9K! Built in 1930, it has 2 beds/1 bath and around 1500 square feet of living space, and has been nicely updated, but, thankfully the older details haven't been erased. There are original hardwood floors (including heart of pine in the kitchen), beautiful built-in bookcases, a gas fireplace and glossy millwork throughout. Added bonus: you can swing by Graceland whenever you want! For more info/pics, go here

Anything-But-Modern English

Northwest of London, in the green countryside of Shropshire, sits this sweet pile of bricks known as Old Hall, which dates back to the 16th century. The 5 bed/1 bath (that's how it shows its age), on the market for around $854K, is located in the tiny village of Hughley, within walking distance of famously scenic market town of Much Wenlock. The house has lots of character including ceiling timbers, stone walls, wide plank floors and several fireplaces. Outside is a separate workshop/garage and a half acre of gardens including two dedicated to roses and herbs. Country squire life, here we come! For more info/pics, go here

Mi-Century Monday, Redux!

We liked it so much last week that we're doing it again, beginning with this one that's as fine as cream gravy and hotter n' a honeymoon hotel! Yep, it's Austin, Texas, where the barbecue's legendary, the music's smoking, and neighbors include bongo player Matthew McConaughey and Oscar gal Sandra Bullock. With over 4000 square feet and 4 beds/5 baths, this 1964 stunner in the Tarrytown nabe has been meticulously revamped with terrazzo floors, glass walls, stacked stone interiors walls and a large pool. And at $1.545 million, we'd be fixin' to move here. For more pics/info, go here

Ranch Blessing

While not strictly fitting the mid-century modern style, this well-maintained ranch in the Churchill section of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was built in 1955 and shares many of the characteristics. Although it could use a few updates, the 3 bed/3.5 bath has an open floor plan, two gas fireplaces, a family room, built-ins in the dining room, and sits on a corner lot with mature plantings and a lush backyard. Best of all is the $229K asking price. Updating it doesn't seem so bad now, does it? For more info/pics, go here

Massachusetts Marvel

This 1700 square foot 1958 beauty sits on a leafy lot in historic Lexington, Massachusetts, best known for being the site of the first shot of the American Revolution. These days, there's a bustling downtown area full of restaurants, shops and galleries, and nearby is this $634K 3 bed/2 bath was owned by an architect who dusted off the original details and then updated it with gorgeous new kitchen and baths. So lovely and so very liveable, don't you think? For more info/pics, go here

It's Friday, so why not indulge in a little fantasy real estate splurge to go along with all the last-minute shopping madness? And this is so worth splurging for: a nearly 14,000 square foot contemporary lounging on 3.5 acres in gorgeous Montecito, California, for $19.9 million. Words can't do justice to the 5 bed/5.5 bath jaw-dropper with features like a gallery that will also store up to 32 cars, and a glass-walled bathroom that lets you soak and drink in the lush outdoors simultaneously. If you're relocating to Buenos Aires, you're going to want to live in the Recoleta district, close to great restaurants, the famous Plaza de Mayo, and the best shopping in South America. At just under $900K, you could call this nearly 5000 square foot art nouveau masterpiece "home." Known as "Petit Hotel," it was built in 1912 and has been completely updated, but the graceful details like marble stairs, intricate moldings, stained glass windows and the most stunning iron work we've ever seen remain intact. And the elegant, airy rooms are perfect for a tango party, don't you think? For more info/pics, go here

Carrie'd Away

Sex & The City may be over (and that dread second movie put it six feet under), but sometimes we still think about the real estate featured on the show. And even though the building used for Carrie's digs was actually downtown, she was supposed to live on the Upper East Side. And if she was starting out in Manhattan now, maybe she'd be able to afford this 1 bed/1 bath East 82nd Street bargain. For just $325K, there's exposed brick, tin ceilings, new kitchen, a decent sized bedroom and updated bath. Room for 500 pairs of Manolos? Doubtful. For more info/pics, go here

Big Easy Breezy

It's almost Mardi Gras, which got us thinking about what a great city New Orleans is, and not just because Brad and Angie spend a lot of time there. For $221K, this renovated 96 year old historic cottage in the Algiers Point nabe, you'd be halfway to having your own sexy drawl. With 1728 square feet and 4 beds/2 baths, this charmer is larger than it looks and nicely updated with bamboo flooring, a large master jacuzzi/shower, gas fireplace, central air and a new kitchen. Do you smell beignets in your future? For more info/pics, go here

Brooklyn Heights is known for its proximity to Manhattan, stunning views, and historic housing—all of which comes at a price, but, hey, that's New York real estate for you. On the market for $3.1 million, this gracious 5 bed/3 bath single family brownstone sits on one of the Height's best blocks. Marble mantles, herringbone wood floors, interior shutters, working fireplaces, intricate molding—they're all here, along with an deep yard that includes a dining patio and separate garden area. Storming the Castle

VACATION RENTAL: With the doldrums of winter just around the corner, it's time to plan a spring or summer getaway and we can't think of a better location than Italy's Umbria region, known for its truffles, forests and ancient hilltop towns. For $6500-8500/week, you can become the monarchs of Castello Todini, an exquisite 6 bed/6 bath (sleeps 12) castle outside the city of Todi. The amenities include an elevator, large pool and rose garden, and a rooftop dining/lounging space with views that will make you cry. We're crying just scrolling through the photos. (Happy tears.) Plus, the property is handled by Parker Villas, so you know you're in good hands. For more info/pics, go here

Thoroughly Moderne Maison

This gorgeous home near downtown Portland, Oregon, showcases a rather uncommon style known as Art Moderne (think deco crossed with modern). Built in 1937, the 2700 square foot, 4 bed/2.5 bath house has been renovated top to bottom, with new plumbing, electrical and roof, but original details like curved interior walls and two-tone wood staircase are intact. $595K includes mad-beautiful views of both Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood from the master balcony, and the outdoor areas are lush and lovely. Guess we're moving to Portland. For more info/pics, go here

Paging Aunt Bee

With just 11,000 residents, tiny Tarboro, in eastern North Carolina, is the epitome of small-town America, with a renowned historic district and a sweet downtown area. We don't know for sure, but we imagine it's the kind of place where you could leave the spare key under the doormat. The prices are just as inviting: this 1895 Victorian Italianate clapboard, is $169.9K, and comes with 4 beds/2 baths, 3 fireplaces and a front porch perfect for rocking chairs and sipping iced tea with the neighbors. We're pretty sure they're very friendly (in a good way!). For more info/pics, go here

There Once Was a Man From Nantucket...

Who when it came to budgets said...well, you know. Obviously, no expense was spared on this stunning $9,850,000 shingled manse on the bay side of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Only two years old, the 6 bed/8bath has the kind of handsome details that make it seem older—stone fireplaces, random plank floors and moldings, hefty doors and windows. It also has things that make us swoon: a tennis court, a pool, a guest house, a home gym, nearly 6 acres of outdoor space with stone pathways and gardens, and expansive water views. So check those lotto tickets, folks, and this dream could come true. For more info/pics, go here

Greece is the Word

Blue skies, white beaches, ancient ruins, feta cheese, baklava...you'd have to be half-mad not to want to live in Greece, or at least visit it for extended periods of time. And for around $257K, you can lay your claim to this renovated 3 bed/2 bath stone house in the coastal town of Milatos, Crete. The original stonework is intact, as are the timber ceilings, open fireplace and wooden windows and doors, but there's also a/c and solar heating. There's a ground floor garden garden area, but the upstairs terrace is the real draw, with a pergola and sea views. Ouzo, anyone? For more info/pics, go here

Mid Century Monday!

For absolutely no reason other than we feel like it, today's 3 listings are all mid-century babies, starting with this rather unique 1960 house in the beautiful Texas hill town of Fredericksburg (better known for its historic Victorian architecture). High, wood-clad ceilings, fieldstone walls and a welcoming fireplace give the 3 bed/3.5 bath interior a warm feel, while the $559K home's horseshoe shape allows you to view the pool, patio and lush landscaping from just about every room. Can't you just imagine yourself living a fabulous life here? For more info/pics, go here

Sweet Charlotte

The joke in in this gorgeous North Carolina town is that visitors only need to visit it once. Why? Because after that, they move here and become life-long residents! And we're tempted to do just that by buying this 3 bed/2 bath 1959 ranch in the Madison Park nabe, close to Charlotte's restaurants/shops and nightlife. For the very reasonable price of $275K, this post and beam home comes nicely renovated, with new kitchen and baths complimenting original details like beamed ceilings, hardwood floors and huge windows. Go ahead—snap this one up before someone else does. For more info/pics, go here

Desert Oasis

There are lots of mid-century beauties in the swinging desert town of Palm Springs, California, but few prettier than this $775K one on the Indian Canyon Golf Resort. Built in 1969, it has 3 beds/2.5 baths and 2900 square feet of indoor living space, with polished dark wood floors, white beamed ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and built-in cabinets in the master bedroom. Baroque Living

There's exquisite and then there's this: The stunningly ornate Francis J. Dewes mansion in Chicago's Lincoln Park, listed at $9.9 million. Pricey, sure, but once you've seen what the completely renovated 12,000 square foot interior looks like, it's practically a bargain. A mix of Beaux-Arts, Baroque and even Gothic Revival, the 1896 jaw-dropper has 7 beds/7 baths and 2 half baths, 8 magnificent fireplaces, marble floors and pillars, stained and leaded glass, carved wood and iron staircases, a ballroom turned into a master bedroom, and just too many other amazing things to mention, so scroll thru the photos. (Keep the smelling salts handy—such gorgeousness could make you lightheaded) For more info/pics, go here

Houston, We've Got a Solution

Today's bargain—and the answer to your prayers—is this spacious 1957 ranch in Houston's Glenbrook Valley historic district (known for mid-century homes) which is on the market for just $225K. Of course, you'd have to make a few changes (the wall colors, perhaps), but the Texas home is bright and open, with 3300 square feet, 3 bedrooms (plus a separate office that could be a 4th bedroom), and 3.5 baths. There are hardwood and tiled floors, central air, and loads of bult-ins including in the kitchen, which has updated appliances and counters. We could move in right now! For more info/pics, go here

Philip Johnson Beauty

Homes by Philip Johnson, one of America's greatest architects, are not often found on the market. Lucky for us, then, that this one popped up in New Canaan, Connecticut, just down the road from his masterpiece, the famous Glass House. Built in 1953, this 3 bed/3 bath is fine example of the architect's utilization of glass and stone, and has most of its original features, including fixtures and cabinetry. At $2.795 million, it includes a guest house, walled gardens and over 2 acres of land. It doesn't get much better than this. For more info/pics, go here

Beachy Keen

For today's bargain, you have to head south—way south, as in Costa Rica. Samara is a small town on the western side of the country, right on the water. For $139K, this sweet 675 square foot bungalow has 1 bed/1 bath, new a/c, terracotta floors, and a private patio and yard. It's also part of a resort community, though, so you'll have access to a pool, restaurant, store, wi-fi, landscaping and maid service. And the beach is just steps away. Can you hear those waves? For more info/pics, go here

Cowboys & Cocktails

To be honest, we're not quite sure what to call the style of this 3200 square foot mini-manse in Oklahoma City's leafy Quail Creek area, but it looks like a great place for throwing parties. Built in 1970, it has 3 beds/2.5 baths and a 2 car garage, but the real draw is the interior's soaring floor to ceiling windows and matching brick walls. The gothic-shaped windows and shady tiled patio that follows the house's curves are added pluses. Even if you can't put a label on its style, $329K seems more than fair price. So: will you be having beer or bourbon? For more info/pics, go here

Gilding the Lily

In honor of Gossip Girl's ass-kicking, nail-biting mid-season finale (not to return til mid-january, sob), today's three listings are all about real estate inspired by the show. First up is this $25 million Upper East Side aerie fit for gorgeous socialite Lily van der Woodsen Humphrey and lucky hubby Rufus. A full floor penthouse of a prewar Park Avenue coop, it has 5 beds/5 baths, wraparound terraces, a marble gallery, Venetian plaster walls and some kind of automated system to control the climate, humidification, shades audio and lighting. OMFG, as the title character would say. To imagine what it's like to be a van der Woodsen (it's tragic how much we love saying that name), go here

Lonely Boy's Loft

Even tho his one-time rocker dad, Rufus, hit the jackpot when he married Lily and moved to the Upper East Side (where he now seems to spend all his time cooking giant meals that the skinny inhabitants obviously don't eat), Dan Humphreys (aka, Lonely Boy, aka, a semi-successful writer whose first novel was published without his consent or knowledge) lives in the former family digs, a huge industrial loft in Brooklyn. While we couldn't find anything with that amount of bonhomie, this one that comes close. At $2.5 million, the 2 bed/2 bath is more luxurious (there's a doorman and parking) and costly than what the Humphrey clan paid way back when, but then again, it's obviously a bedroom short as well (Little Jenny, we don't miss you!). For more info/pics, go here

Dorota's Digs

Perhaps Gossip Girl's favorite character, Blair Waldorf's Polish maid Dorota, lives in an apartment in Queens that Blair's stepdad Cyrus gifted to her on her wedding day. Now that she and Russian doorman hubby Vanya are expecting baby #2, the 3rd bedroom of this 1900 square foot, 3 bath coop in Kew Gardens would come in handy. At $369K, it was an appropriate bonus for having to put up with the years of grief that "Miss Blair" throws at Dorota. For more info/pics, go here

Praising Arizona

Classic adobe-style houses aren't the only historic kind you'll find in the beautiful city of Phoenix. Search a little deeper and you can find other styles, like this renovated 1916 Craftsman bungalow in the city's Evergreen Historic District. The curb appeal begins with the shady front porch and continues inside with original woo floors/doors/trims and built-ins, plus two working fireplaces. $499K gets you 4 beds/1/5 baths and 2800 square feet, with a separate office space and french doors to the backyard brick patio. Masculine, sure, but what woman wouldn't want to live here too? For more info/pics, go here

Vacay in Vienna

VACATION RENTAL:  The new Viggo Mortensen movie A Dangerous Method reminded us that we really need to visit Vienna already. But rather than book pricey hotel rooms for the friends we'll bully into coming, here's a 3 bed/1 bath (sleeps 6-8; $1200-2000K/week) rental in a beautiful 18th century building smack in the historic center of Ludenplatz. Herringbone wood floors, chandeliers and lots of light make your stay comfy, while outside, you'll go all local perusing the nabe's cafes and restaurants. As an added bonus, the ground floor of the building houses Grimm, the oldest bakery in Vienna. Mmm...can you smell the pastry now? For more info/pics, go here

Townhouse Toujours

There's something about an east coast brick townhouse that's just so homey. The historic Trinity area of Wilmington, Delaware, showcases the style, like this 1880 beauty on the market for just under $165K.
