2. Portland, OR (T+L's Best Cities for Hipsters)

This famously tranquil town has a lot of nicknames—Stumptown (because of the tree stumps left over from logging; the coffee brand came much later), The City of Roses (an official title bestowed because of its many gardens, including the International Rose Test Garden), and, our favorite, Beervana (due to its many microbreweries). And if you can swing a $425K mortgage, this darling 3 bed/2 bath 1917 shingled cottage could make you its newest, bicycle-loving citizen. We  like the high ceilings, original wood floors, moldings, new kitchen (the green cabinet color is unusual, but awesome), updated baths, and perfectly-sized yard with stone patio and built-in seating.
