9. Philadelphia, PA (T+L's Best Cities for Hipsters)

Since there was no Mid-Century Modern Monday this week (sob), here's a little something for architecture fans to fawn over: the Margaret Esherick House, designed by the late great Louis I. Kahn in 1960. (To see more of his work, google two of our favorites: the Jatiyo Sangshad building in Bhaban, and the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth.) Although technically just 1 bed/1.5 baths, the home is a spacious 2800 square feet so there's flexibility, plus the kitchen is especially cool, as it was built by famed sculptor Wharton Escherick, uncle of the owner. Situated on a lush, landscaped three-quarter acre lot on Pastorius Park, the $1.5 million home is close to Chestnut Hill's many shops and restaurants. To help you imagine the thrill of coming home to this every night, go here
