Millicent Rogers Slept Here

If you're saying "Who?!" then we'll school you in a nutshell: born in 1902, she was an oil heiress, socialite, fashion icon and activist for American Indian rights; she married three times and was linked to Clark Gable, the Prince of Wales, and Ian Fleming, among many others. In the mid 40s, she moved to Taos, New Mexico, where she died in 1953 (the Millicent Rogers Museum here is a must-see). And this was her home: called Turtle Walk, the magnificent 79 acre 9 bed/8 bath estate consists of the main house, a guest house, caretakers cottage, servants quarters, and several outbuildings, plus astounding views of the Taos mountains. Built of adobe, the main house, which surrounds a courtyard (there's also a pool), has striking original details like hand-painted ceiling beams, tiled floors, multiple fireplaces, and built-in seating. The $7.9 million asking price certainly isn't cheap, but considering all that you'd get, it's kind of a bargain. For more info/pics, go here
